Continued from Mexico City Day 3 Part 2.
Courtyard. I love the vibrant blue.
Entrance into the house/museum.
There are works by Frida, Diego, and other artists.
Frida’s Breasts! I spotted this from a window from inside the house. I’ve never seen a video of Frida before.
At any other house, this would have been an odd poster to have. But with Frida, this is expected.
After finishing viewing the inside of the house, I went out into the courtyard to watch the video. There are video footage of Frida interacting with Diego. It’s kind of weird to see that she was an actual living person. I’ve only seen painting or photos of her until this, and it’s just not the same as a video.
While we are at it, another picture of her self portrait breasts from the video.
The house is pretty amazing. They incorporated clay pots into the facade of the house. I also realized that the accent wall that I have at home is very similar to the color of the blue on this house. Coincidence? I think not.
Side exhibit with some of the outfits that Frida wore.
Sigh, so beautiful and so sad.
Well, that’s that. I went to the gift shop and bought a few postcards for myself to keep as memento. That Frida, she’s so hot!
Back out strolling in the neighborhood to another museum. I like this house because of all the garage spaces.
A few streets here are named after European capitols. There’s also Paris and Vienna, etc.
Loving the yellow on this bug.
Heh, it says PORNO, heh. I am a child.
Reminds me of the light exhibit at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa. You weren’t supposed to take photos of that exhibit, but I did anyway, as did everyone else. You should go see it too, and be sure to sneak in some photos.
I think this is the place I am looking for. I’ve read that it looks like a fortress, and this house looks like a fortress.
Yup, this is it. It is built like a fortress for his protection.
I had to walk all the way around the house to find the front entrance, which now faces a very busy highway. I wonder if this highway existed back then too?
I entered the compound and paid for my entrance ticket. For such an important historical figure, this museum is very loosely run. I could have rearranged everything in here and no one would have caught me.
A crappy crooked photo of the entrance into the house.
This is his study, where he was assassinated with an ice axe.
Why is this doorway so small? I had to duck down to get through…hmm.
There’s a bullet hole on the wall above the bed from a previously failed assassination attempt.
Ah, it all makes sense. The doorways are small because these are steel doors that protects him while he sleeps at night.
The windows also get the same steel treatment.
A better look at the steel doors. It’s just two plates of steel, and not even that particularly thick. Will it really stop bullets?
Well, that was interesting. Now, it’s time for me to go back to the hotel. I am heading towards a different subway stop and the route there is along the busy highway. How boring.
Another side note: As I am typing this out right now at 1:20PM, my headache is increasing as my drunkenness has decreased. Ugh, I am not looking forward to this terrible hangover that I’ll probably experience in another hour. Fuck me.
Is that an agave plant or something else? I’ve never seen an agave so big. It’s massive, taller than me!
Look back towards Coyoacán. I’m going to miss this place.
Long boring walk. The quality of this walk sucks.
Getting closer to the subway stop, there’s life here. Street food stands are starting to pop up.
Would someone please buy me that backpack?
Finally made it. Despite the lack of photos, that was a 20 minute walk in the hot sun. I am actually slightly sunburned from being out in the sun all day yesterday at Teotihuacan.
Interesting art in the subway station.
It’s around 4 in the afternoon and the subway trains are jam packed.
After a long hot cramped ride, I’ve made it to my end stop.
The subway trains actually ride on rubber tires here. I’ve seen this system before, but I can’t for the life of me remember which city it was that I saw these trains.
I am hungry, but I don’t think I want to eat that.
This place was bustling and smelled really good.
Grease sizzling everywhere. I stood here waiting to get a chair to sit. I didn’t want to stand and eat. 10 minutes goes by, everyone keeps on ordering more tacos and no one leaves, so I said fuck it and left. I’ll head back towards the hotel and figure something out.
Found a bakery on the way back to the hotel, so this will do for my hunger. This is probably a safer option anyway.
My friend RT, the groom, had messaged me earlier today informing me that the plan tonight is to meet for drinks at 8 for his bachelor party. This may end up being an even longer day than yesterday…
To be continued at Mexico City Day 3 Part 3.
Looking good K – wiating for the e-book on your world travels – hmm, how does that get autographed…? 😉
