Continued from Charleston Day 2 Part 2.
Our last day in Charleston, let’s make it count. The weather has been near perfect so far, so let’s make it another day of nice weather. It was supposed to be more windy today, so that’s why we did the Fort Sumter tour yesterday to try to avoid the choppy seas. Other than the wind, temperature wise it’ll still be moderate in the 70s and 80s.
Don’t try to look so cute and innocent. We know you woke mommy and daddy up multiple times last night with your crying for milk.
As promised, it’s kind of windy today so far.
Headed to the aquarium, I am excited. I hope PL will be excited as well, but we’ll see.
First, some breakfast. PL already had breakfast down in the hotel early in the morning with the grandparents, so time for me and RL to eat. This place is called Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit. It has good reviews but we picked it because of the name mainly. PL’s nickname is Cali.
Let’s see, what looks good to me from their display…
Can’t come to this region without eating shrimp and grits at least once.
Loves playing with cups and straws. Look, we call you Cali and you are our hot little biscuit!
BH couldn’t stand the smell in the biscuit place for some reason, so he went across the street to a doughnut shop.
Hi, I am Cali and I am a hot little biscuit. I also dump liquids all over myself.
Then we had a debate about whether we’ll walk to the aquarium or if we’ll take the free bus there. I lobbied for the bus since we had already walked to the Fort Sumter ferry terminal that was next to the aquarium yesterday, and it wasn’t such an exciting walk. Plus, I am lazy, I just want to sit on a bus.
Across the street from the bus stop is Charleston Museum, where out front they had a replica of a submarine used in the Civil War.
Better view of the Charleston Museum.
Isn’t this awesome, getting driven around in comfort.
Uh oh…I may have miscalculated. The bus made a detour around the college campus where hoards of college kids got on the bus. It got so crowded the bus driver asked us to fold the stroller up and PL had to be held on grandma’s lap. That was hell. PL refuses to be contained anywhere quietly…and getting her back into the stroller later *shudder*…
20 min later, we reached the aquarium where their skater prevention devices are cast sea creatures. In retrospect, it would have been much nicer to walk than to be jam packed onto a bus with two little kids.
I am excited about going to an aquarium with my kids. Hopefully PL will find it as fascinating as I do.
This is not a good sign….all she wants to do is walk on ramps and climb up and down steps…
Come on, let’s see the exhibits!!! This is just a ramp leading up to the exciting stuff!
Does not want to leave the ramp…
Doesn’t quite know what to think of it…
Then she discovered that next to the glass there was a line of caulk that she can play with…All she wanted to do was scrape the grim off of the caulk….
Look, a snake that you can touch. PL did not want.
Then she discovered the greatest thing ever, escalators. This absolutely blew her mind. All she wanted was to go up and down the escalator.
Look, a bald eagle! PL was semi amused, then wanted to go back to the escalators.
I gripped that thing over 200psi baby! Off the charts!
Not amused with the eagle’s nest.
Daddy, can you take me back to the escalator?
Haha, that’s so awesome. They had all these Lego displays around the aquarium, and this one even had a bald eagle poop!
Look at that little tiny falcon.
To this albino alligator, PL said, “Rarwww!”
Whoever made these Lego displays did a great job.
At this point, RL had to go breastfeed CL. So rest of us spent the time walking PL up and down the stairs and escalators while trying to get glimpse of the tanks here and there.
Now, I understand why they have these little playscapes in aquariums. PL can care less about the marine animals at her age….sigh. Daddy is sad. Maybe in a few more years, she’ll be more impressed by them.
There was a feeding session going on at the main tank. We figured that PL may enjoy seeing a scuba diver and the fish feeding.
Nope…but look at all these stairs!!! STAIRS!!!!
A Lego model of the pineapple fountain down at Waterfront Park. We’ll be visiting the actual fountain later today.
At this point, it was determined that the only way any of us can see any of the aquarium at all is to take turns while others entertain PL. So, off I went with my MIL to walk around the aquarium. Good thing it’s small, so it won’t take too long.
I like this aquarium, they’ve got a good sense of humor.
You can also buy shrimp to feed the rays.
Cool, a touch pool. Maybe PL would enjoy this. Will go fetch her later and bring her here.
Cool, horseshoe crabs! And what’s even better is that they seem to be having sex!! I touched them since they were in the touch pool, but I just realized that I was an unwelcome party to them getting it on….
Cool Lego octopus where it extends into the inside of the tank.
It’s time to eat. Nom nom nom.
Small aquarium, that was that for the exhibits. Now it’s time for me to fetch the kids and RL, then we’ll bring them through the aquarium, yet again. I think this would make it my third trip through the exhibits…not complaining. I love aquariums.
RL walked by this Lego piece and said, “look at that lizard!”….It’s a hatching sea turtle…
I think PL is happier to look at the exhibits now that she’s had her fill of stairs and escalators.
What does the duck say? “Quack!” says PL.
Look, you can touch the sea star!
Errr…PL tried to lift the whole cup and tried to dump it out instead…oops.
Done with aquariums, and found the grandparents both chilling and on their phones. Nice.
It’s super sunny now and around noon, time for sunblock.
Last thing before leaving first ever aquarium visit, a stamp on the hand just for fun. I wish PL was more interested in the aquarium instead of stairs, but I guess baby steps…no pun intended.
To be continued at Charleston Day 3 Part 2.
