Continued from Savannah Day 2 Part 1.
Time to leave Forsyth Park, head semi towards the direction we came from, and go through a brand new set of squares.
I don’t know if I should laugh or feel bad. PL has been soooo excited to play with a cup of ice…but finally, I think the ice got the best of her and her hands got cold and she started getting upset about it. Here’s RL trying to warm up PL’s little red hands with her own hands…Poor thing, she looks so sad…
Not the most stroller friendly.
The squares on this side of Savannah aren’t as nice as the other side closer to our hotel. They usually don’t have a focal center piece and just don’t seem to be as well maintained or used.
So much Spanish Moss. I bet its slowly killing the trees it covers.
This is Ellis Square, it was once a historical square like all the other ones, then eventlaly became a parking garage. That parking garage is gone now, replaced with this…I don’t know…kind of sterile square with not much shade. Did not feel inviting, unlike the historic squares.
Next to Ellis Square is the City Market…It’s kind of like the City Market in Charleston, just a bunch of tourist shops, not interested. RL has corrected me and said it isn’t like the Charleston market. The Charleston market was a bunch of little vendors stalls, many of which have locally made stuff. This market has individual shops and seem to have a lot of stuff that’s more expensive and not necessarily local.
While the girls shopped, BH and I found a pub around the corner to have a beer.
A Scottish bar in Savannah, interesting.
Not long after we got here, the girls all ended up joining us here as well. Now that we are all here, might as well have lunch. It feels a little odd having Scottish bar food in Savannah, but now that the girls are situated, no reason to get out in search of another place.
The food started coming out, and it’s surprisingly good! Grilled cheese for PL.
CL was mesmerized by the map. She would not stop staring at it.
Can’t do without fish and chips.
Seriously, we came in here expecting just mediocre bar food, but everything ended up being really delicious!! This meal was not lost eating a non-local cuisine.
They’ve got one of those alcoholic slushy places here. Reminds me of New Orleans.
I really feel like I am in New Orleans.
No open container laws here in this part of Savannah(only in the down town district), so obviously I’ll take my drink to go. Ahhh.
Even something as simple as zipping up her jacket is not so simple.
She fell on her face at the park, that’s what all the marks are from.
PL, so out going. Making new friends.
Time to head back to the hotel so that PL can take her midday nap.
CL looks to be sleepy as well.
Zzzzzz….
Some 3 hours later, we are ready to head out of our hotel room again. If only the girls took a 3 hour nap though. I don’t think either of them slept for more than an hour, but we were tired so just hung out around the hotel room after they woke up.
This way the sun doesn’t shine in her eyes.
Back down to the waterfront. There’s a whole section that we had not walked by yesterday.
BH wanted me to take a photo of this brick pipe. He was really impressed by how old it is. This is for you BH!
Again, reminds me of the touristy parts of New Orleans.
BH takes a photo of me, and I take a photo of him.
There’s another one of these alcoholic slushy place here…might as well get something to drink while we walk around.
Drinking alcohol and watching my daughter have a ball climbing up and down stairs. This is kinda fun.
Pretty chilly and windy out here, time to layer on another coat. We’ve lucked out so much with the nice weather on this trip. No rain that affected our travels and no extreme heat or cold.
These random group of dressed up people asked us to take a photo for them. I guess I’ll take a photo of them with my camera as well.
Wait, I should be drinking here…
Time to go up the “Historic” steps and look for some dinner.
RL and I will share this. My plan is to eat a small meal here, and swing by The Olde Pink House to see if I can get a reservation for RL and I for after the girls go to sleep.
This was a pretty good brisket sandwich though.
After the first dinner, while the rest of the party went back to the hotel to start winding down the girls for bed, I walked to The Olde Pink House to see if I can get a reservation. I had called and they said that the earliest table they had was for 9:40pm, which was way too late for us. But they did say that they have two first come first serve areas that I can just come by and put my name down, which is what I am hoping to do here.
The main level, did not expect these types of art work.
Ancient Chinese portraits in an Southern US restaurant?!
Anyhow, as luck would have it, The Tavern underground was one of the first come first serve areas. I talked to the host and told him to put my name down, but see if maybe he can move my name around until I come back here in about an hour(At around 6:30ish) with RL after I put the kids down to bed. He seemed like he was willing to work with me, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed. It’s Friday night, so I am worried that it’ll be really busy and we won’t have a table until very late…
Tada! After getting the kids to bed, RL and I came back to the Tavern where the host was able to sit us right away. Awesome!! Glad I came by earlier and got my name on the list early.
Those are some old looking bricks.
They had a table in the wine cellar. Other patrons kept on going in to check it out, even when there was a couple seated inside there. Kind of a cool spot, but also kind of annoying because people keep on poking their heads in to check it out.
That empty table is where BH and I sat last night. So, tonight we sat just a table away.
Great food, great atmosphere, and the best company! Love you baby!
Luxury for parents, being able to look at your phone in peace and quiet.
Glad we got to do a date night both in Charleston and Savannah. Tomorrow, it’s travel day back to Austin…eek!
To be continued at Home, Sweet Home.
