Continued from Chicago Day 2 Part 1.
This mosaic is like thousands of years old.
Remember this, but much bigger? This is supposed to be a flamingo.
Another public art, but didn’t see this one.
Didn’t know Miro did this one. Wish I had seen it.
For something thousands of years old, looks so modern in style.
I really like this one too, a Modigliani.
I only took a photo of this one because of nude woman.
Love this one. Dali knows what’s going on.
Isn’t this the creepiest painting ever? I felt gross just even taking a photo of it.
I’ve always like these Giacometti.
Cool how it has this smeared effect.
I took this because there are boobs. It’s in a major museum, so it’s ok. The museum makes it art and not porn…
Again, in a major museum, must be art.
My daughter PL would love this.
Georgia O’Keeffe. Surprisingly, no allusions to vaginas, none that I could see anyway. It was also massive, the biggest O’Keeffe piece I’ve seen. I came to Chicago 11 years ago, and I couldn’t remember if I had gone to the Art Institute that time. When I saw this painting today, it was when I realized that I’ve been here before. So I guess you could say that out of all the art in this museum, this was the one that made an impression on me.
I take and post too many photos from the museums, but if I didn’t, I am not sure I would remember as much of the trip since I periodically go though my old blogs, but almost never go through my old photo archives. Seeing this particular painting sort of justified posting so many photos from the museums….maybe.
The Art Institute was overwhelmingly large. We’ve been here for an hour and a half, and everything is starting to glaze together. It’s time for a short nap, then make our 6:30pm dinner reservation. I am not happy that I’ll need to set an alarm to wake up from my nap for dinner. Boo.
Zzzzzzz…..ugh. Woken up by alarm, now have to get ready to head out to dinner. Wish could have napped longer.
Two hours since leaving the art museum, we are out of the hotel room, walking to our anniversary dinner. Originally we thought about going to somewhere really fancy, like a Michelin 3 star rated restaurant; but they were either booked out way in advance, or we couldn’t decide on which one we’d like to drop lots of money on. At the end, kids got in the way and we never really made a decision on whether we would actually try to eat at a Michelin rated place. So instead, RL took to Yelp and found us a typical highly rated restaurant to eat at. Nothing wrong with that.
I wonder what’s the story behind this building.
Good thing we made a reservation, it’s busy.
Like all the light fixtures in here.
You know a place takes their drinks seriously when they have giant clear ice cubes.
Ohhh, free drinks. They asked if we were celebrating anything special when I called to make a reservation.
Ceviche. The only dish that was disappointing. Light on the shrimp and octopus…
Walleye from the great lakes, I guess this is considered a local catch.
Sea scallops, not a local catch, but who cares. It’s delicious.
Then banana split for dessert! YUMMY!
Now, for more drinks after dinner. Meeting up with AB and LL at a rooftop bar.
Chicago is relatively flat, I actually see people renting these bikes. Though, the city streets themselves don’t seem very bike friendly to me.
Reached Cindy’s, it’s on the top floor. Doesn’t it sound like a strip club?
Here’s the building it’s located in.
Inside the elevator, it’s paneled with old fencing flooring. Neat.
Here we are. AB and LL, of course, already beat us to it.
As busy as they were, the bartenders were super attentive. Handed us drinks menus on the spot. Liking this place.
Would have been a cool place to have dinner too. I think this would also make a very sweet wedding venue.
Happy 3 years anniversary! Can’t believe we have 2 kids already!! Love you baby!
Happy first traveling together trip! Did not kill each other, not even close to it. I give all the credit to LL for putting up with AB and all his idiosyncrasies.
The reason why we picked Cindy’s, they have an outdoor terrace that overlooks the city. Pretty sweet view.
What’s even better, they have a fire pit up here! It’s cold out here, in the low 50s, but with the fire pit, and being semi enclosed on 3 sides, we decided to sit out here and enjoy the view. Surprisingly, there are very few people out here.
Ahhh, feels perfect out here with the fire pit. This is awesome.
The city is on fire…not really…
We are all lightweights, time to stop drinking. Nice mosaic in the lobby of the building as we exit.
Looking back at Cindy’s. We all really enjoyed our time there. Definitely one of the highlights for all of us. It’s not every day that you get to drink at a rooftop bar in the middle of Chicago with a fire pit. Spectacular combination!
I wonder how many people get really drunk and come to the bean for drunken shenanigans. We are not quite drunk enough for that, maybe next time.
It’s 9:30pm and we are calling it a night. And it feels damn good to be able to go to bed early and sleep in! Kids really do change your life, down to your drinking schedule…
