Continued from Chicago Day 3 Part 1.
Apparently secrets of life means, dead bird, jar of unknown stuff, dead insect, and dead lizard. Got it.
Chicago skyline from the steps of the Field Museum.
Just a short line to get the tickets. It’s not quite as popular as the aquarium.
After getting our tickets, we made a beeline for the cafeteria. Starving.
Fish and chips, can’t get that at the aquarium. I’ve always wanted to go to an aquarium where they serve seafood.
The food here was so expensive, everyone but me decided to keep our cups for drink refills later. I think RL and I spent $27 on our meal for just mediocre food.
Mammoth tusk with numbers written on it.
Teotihuacan, been there, done that.
I think at this point, I already know I won’t be visiting about half of the exhibits in this museum. It was just too overwhelming, plus, I didn’t find half of the displays that interesting. Maybe if I was 12 years old and had an entire week to look at everything in detail, but for just half of the afternoon, I need to make my time count.
This was kind of cool. It was a side saddle for a baby on horseback.
Back in the main lobby. RL and I had gone ahead of AB and LL because we’ve taken the fast track. We decided that we don’t have time/patience to see the whole museum, so we’ll just pick only the ones that we most want to see, and skip the rest. After all, Nap awaits after this museum.
The Egyptian section seems like a good one.
Except, everyone else thought that it was a good exhibit to visit as well…
Mummies scared the shit out of me…all the way into my teens.
Mummified animals. Blazed through the Egyptian exhibit, now onward!
My favorite part of this is finding out there’s such thing as a lichenologist as a job title.
It was quite a small exhibit, like the size of a medium sized room. Seems like lichenologist wouldn’t get paid enough as a full time job.
I believe this is the original skull of Sue the T Rex. The skeleton in the lobby is a replica.
I wouldn’t mess with that thing.
Really? Is this what it really really looked like?
I kinda like this display, almost felt like another world.
Check out this crazy flooring!
We match…why do we always match unintentionally?
OK, Field Museum, we skipped most sections, but we are done. Nap beckons.
We thought we could exit through the gift shop, but it was a false exit. RL did find this scarf for sale here for $18. She has this same exact scarf at home, purchased from another retailer for $8…
What we also discovered about the gift shop is that it has a door leading into the museum exhibit at the back. This gift shop is actually located before the ticket booth, so in theory, you could walk through the gift shop into the museum without ever paying for a ticket and no one would know…I wonder why they have this lapse in security? I guess they assume most people at the museum would be honest?
Waiting for our Lyft to take us back to our hotel. Including lunch, we only spent about an hour and a half visiting the Field Museum. If I were a 12 year old, I would have loved it, but as an adult, too many exhibits just seemed too geared towards kids.
ZZZZZzzzzz…..Ahhh, love napping. Napping is the greatest thing ever. After napping, we made a dinner reservation for 5:45pm.
I like this building. Love the colors.
Good thing we made a reservation, it was crowded.
I’m gonna get myself some head.
My beef plate. For an American fare restaurant, my dish tasted very Asian. Been craving beef lately for some reason.
A group photo to remember our delicious dinner.
A Moscow Mule, because getting drunk is fun.
Gotta fuel up after dinner with coffee. We are going to see a live jazz band and get some swing dance in as well. It’s almost 7:30pm and our goal is to stay up until AT LEAST 10pm!!! We are so pathetic…
I can’t believe we are having to caffeinate ourselves after dinner just to stay up until 10pm…how times have changed. Back in the day, I used to start my night sometimes at midnight…
So, we called a ride share to take us on a 30min ride to the jazz lounge. At first, we tried Lyft, because you know, gotta support the underdogs and Uber the company is an asshole! Except, Lyft wanted like $30 and then we tried Uber, and it was like half price…I guess we don’t hate Uber that much…And this is the reason why Uber can keep on being assholes to everyone, because at the end of the day, money talks. Damn you moral/financial conflicts!!
Traffic, sigh. But it was due to an accident, and we found out LL’s special talent. She sat on the side of the car that had a clear view of the accident, so I jokingly asked her to tell us more about the accident in detail. She saw the accident as we sped by in a split second glance, and then proceeded on rattling off all the details down to what the drivers were wearing…Holy crap, how did she do it?!?
Saw more homeless tents under an underpass. Again, surprised that they just leave them be over here.
Been open since 1907 and Al Capone used to hang out here.
We did not expect for it to be this crowded this early. It’s only 8:30pm and there are essentially no places to sit. We did finally manage to snag two seats at the bar, but it was getting very very crowded in here.
I believe the booth on the bottom right of this photo with the green table lights used to be Al Capone’s booth.
The band comes on, and they are actually also doing a live radio show of the performance tonight. Super cool.
They’ve got a photo of Capone behind the bar. It was sitting on top of a piano, that was on the stage behind the bar as well.
Standing room only. I don’t remember the last time I was at a bar this crowded.
There was a dance floor, a very very small and crowded dance floor. Also, most of the dancers were older couples, which is very different from the scene in Austin.
RL and I also danced. Our first time dancing together in like 2 years…It was…interesting. Makes me want to go dancing again though. The band was top notch, really enjoyed listening to them.
Alright, it’s almost 10pm! Time to leave since we are tired…man, we are lame, but sleep sounds so good!
RL is drunk. This is her drunk pose.
Hopefully, I won’t have too bad of a hangover tomorrow morning. That was a fun night of drinking, dancing, and enjoying some live jazz in a historical bar. Good way to close out our last night in Chicago.
To be continued at Home, Sweet Home.
