RL here, I’ll be blogging this trip as KL is busy with work stuff. It’s time for our first family road trip! KL and I have been wanting to take the kids to the beach and we finally feel like PL is old enough to really enjoy it. We also wanted to see how it goes road trippin’ with two kids. KL’s parents, Ah Ma and Ah Gong(that’s Taiwanese for grandma and grandpa), will be joining us. Here it goes!
My mom, DH, let us borrow her minivan so we could all ride in one car. This makes it soooo much better. I shudder to think of being stuck in the car trying to entertain a toddler and baby for 5ish hours. But first, struggle for 10 min trying to relocate one of the captains chairs to allow easier access to the third row. Seriously, they could have made this easier…
Yay for grandparents who love to entertain the kids for us! So nice to not do “toddler talk” for awhile.
KL found my mom’s sunglasses that go over regular glasses. He felt very cool in them and wanted to make sure that I took this picture so you all know that he is cool.
I saw a pinata store selling Trump pinatas. We went by it too fast and I didn’t get a picture so I just googled an image.
Not sure how he managed to fall asleep. CL(our youngest) would never stand for me sleeping instead of entertaining her.
It always cracks me up when TV shows film TX and show tons and tons of cactus. Majority of Texas does not look like that. Sure, there is cactus, but most of Texas isn’t FILLED with cactus.
PL wanted a snack and we are hungry as well. As a parent, we often just end up eating what our kids are eating. Wheat raisin bread for all!
Watermelon venders on the side of the road. Wish we could have stopped but we’re trying to make decent time before the kids start losing it. When they’re older and we take road trips I definitely want them to have fun and spontaneous trips where we stop and do stuff like this.
After a few hours in the car we decide to stop here for lunch
Does not care about taking a picture with mama.
The kids love “chasing” each other.
Ordered on the way out the door. Must hide from kids and eat it in peace in the front. On a more serious note, I did not like that Dairy Queen. The staff were all really nice but the other patrons were very mean looking. The kids were actually on very good behavior and being very charming and cute. There were a bunch of older people eating there, and normally anywhere we go someone smiles and says the kids are cute. Not these people. In fact I would say we got a lot of stony faced stare and glares. I actually got really uncomfortable because of it. I honestly think it was because KL and his parents are Asians and were speaking in Mandarin, and this is such a small town. Like I said, the staff were the only nice ones but they were all minorities themselves as well.
Stopping on the way to pay homage to KL’s grandpa who is buried here.
Mama L leaves Grandpa some food.
KL told me that different rooms and walls pay different prices based on the view(the view for the ashes of your deceased loved one).
Everyone pretends to fall asleep so that the kids will take their nap. Worked for CL.
City of cement and constant construction.
I never understood the whole bridal shows thing.
Sweet relief! Only 94 degrees! This is a welcome change to the triple digits in Austin. People are always wanting to move to Austin but do they know about the insane heat and humidity? I will say, that even Austin summer can’t lay a finger to Thailand heat. Now that was a kind of heat I wasn’t use to!
Galveston is such a mix of dilapidated and falling apart to cute beach houses and lovely homes.
On Seawall which our hotel is off of.
Our resting place for the next two nights.
The first thing KL said when he saw the pool with the swim up bar was “Now THAT pool gets peed in.” Needless to say, that killed any desire of mine to go swimming here.
One of our rooms. KL’s parents are right next door.
Discovers the ocean and begins to shriek “Ocean! Ocean!”
To be continued at Galveston Day 1 Part 2.
