Continued from Fredericksburg Day 1.
Mission Accomplished. We woke up this morning and went right back to sleep. I never realized how big of a luxury sleeping in was until I had kids.
Took our time this morning, but finally it’s time to get out and see the War of The Pacific Museum.
Look at that temperature! Couldn’t have asked for better weather in early September.
A very short drive. Would have walked, but RL had injured her ankle a few days earlier, so we are trying to keep her walking to a minimum if possible.
Last emperor of China is that little baby over there.
Ugh. My tolerance for kids injured in wars has gone down like a million fold since having kids. Prior to kids, I never understood why journalists always reported specifically that kids were killed, but now I do. It hurts.
Look at the smile on his face.
An US soldier carved this caricature of a Japanese on a coconut.
Always loved how these warships also carry a seaplane onboard.
A boy’s kimono with war machines on it.
Back outside the museum. That was a pretty good museum, but we are not done yet. It’s only one of 3 locations of the museum. We’ll be driving down the street to the second location.
Even though we left our kids back with the grandparents in Austin, we brought along a dirty hand print on my car from PL. How cute, except for the fact that she didn’t listen to me when I told her not to touch the car!
PT boat. JFK was commanded a PT boat while he was in WWII.
It was here that I decided to google how these torpedoes were fired and aimed, then got into an hour long bunny trail on the internet. Some of them shoot out from the tubes, while I believe the ones on the model above just roll off deck.
There’s an reenactment auditorium over here.
One of those giant airplane search lights that you always see in movies.
Done with the museum, saw this on the way out. Old school cemetery.
After museum, it was a short drive back to our hotel to check out then hit the main street.
Texas has a lot of cool old courthouses, this is not one of them.
Whenever I see Marktplatz, it brings me back to a bustling central plaza in German cities.
However, there is nothing bustling about the Marktplatz today in Fredericksburg.
Of course, we pick the only restaurant in town that has a line. Fortunately, it was only about 10min long wait.
Head next door to look around at a shop while we wait for our table.
Interesting, that’s a Subaru. Super tiny car.
On the phone with the grandparents to see how the kids are doing. They are fine, other than that the little one cried all night and didn’t want to sleep since she wasn’t in a familiar bed.
We take vacations so we can look at photos and videos of our kids on the phone instead of looking at them in real life.
After a very very long wait, our food finally comes out.
Definitely hit the spot for me.
If they had an accordion ornament, I would have bought one.
Who knew Fredericksburg was such a popular bachelorette party spot. We saw multiple groups of bachelorette parties, and it seemed like almost all of them spoke with a strong Southern twang.
RL and I shared a flight of beers. While nothing stood out, I still very much enjoyed my time here. I can see myself having a great drunken time here with beers, food, and friends.
Wouldn’t be Texas if I wasn’t parked between two giant trucks. It’s early afternoon now, time to head back to Austin.
That extra load in the back does not seem secure.
Again, passing by all the wineries on the way back to Austin.
Almost back home. Of course, the traffic on Mopac is so bad, we had to take an alternate route home.
I saw that very same Alfa Romeo yesterday. I recognize it because it had a Butler University sticker on the back.
‘Merica! And that concludes our super short out of town trip.
