NYC Day 1 Part 1

Continued from DC Day 3.

Leaving DC today and headed to NYC via train. Our apartment rental recommends us to take a photo of the keys and the parking card to show proof that we returned it to the front desk so that we won’t get charged for missing items. We’ll actually hold onto the parking card for when we need to leave the garage with our car when we come back in a few days.

Excited to travel to a different city.

Into an UberXL we go to Union Station.

Pretty quiet morning here in central DC.

Union Station ahead. That’s quite the grand building.

Still practicing his winking.

We finally found the DC Circulator bus. I guess it’s finally running today…now that we are leaving town. Useless.

They don’t build them like they used to.

Beautiful.

Coffee line.

Very proud that he could go between the gaps in railing.

Yes, coffee please. Traveling with three young kids is hard work.

Such a cool building.

Our train leaves at 10:30am and it takes about 3 hours to get to NYC which means we’ll need to have lunch on the train. Let’s see what’s open in the food hall and get some food for the train. We ended up getting some chicken tenders from Raising Cane.

Good that our train is on time, but sucks that they don’t release the track number until very late.

I’m the luggage watcher while RL and the kids shop at an Uniqlo in the train station.

Train track finally released and it’s time to board.

How annoying. They’ve got gate letters, and then when you get past the gate they’ve got track numbers. Why not just give us track numbers and call it a day.

Carrying their luggage with purpose.

Their first time taking a high speed train…well, sort of high speed. It’s high speed for America. I think it gets up to 150mph at some sections?

3 kid life means one person needs to sit by themself…that’s me.

PL always does this little chipmunk look when she wants to look cute.

Not all the seats were occupied yet, so we were able to snatch a couple of other seats to sit together. Plus the kids were fighting so we needed to split them up.

Mesmerized by the train ride…for now at least.

Oh uh, this one is feeling a little motion sickness even though we gave them dramamine beforehand. I think it’s because she’s facing backwards on the train. She switched to a different seat that faces forward and it was better.

Cafe car, something to eat for me.

And some Jack and coke to help me deal with the crazy kids. We are trying to hold off on ipad for as long as possible.

May get some rain soon.

Train food, Nathan’s hot dog. Got it for the kids, they didn’t want it so I guess I’ll eat it.

About to pass through Philly.

And it’s starting to rain some.

Now in New Jersey. I think that’s Newark?

Almost 3 hours later, we are about to arrive in NYC. Got our bags down and ready to go.

Go go go go!

The kids’ favorite, escalators.

NYC, here we are. Our hotel is just too many blocks to walk with our bags, we are going to take an Uber.

Actually make that a taxi. There was a taxi waiting near by so we figured we’d jump in.

It’s a van taxi, so I thought there would be seats for all of us. But no, it’s a wheelchair van taxi which means the third row is just for a wheel chair ramp. 4 people in the second row and me up front with the driver. Good thing it’s a short drive.

Our hotel for the next 3 nights.

This about sums it up.

They’ve got a cool underground lounge here, will visit sometime during our stay here.

Very Moroccan feel.

We arrived too early to check in, so we dropped off our bags and it’s time to explore NYC a little. First, a little snack in Bryant Park.

Love this park. It’s like a little Oasis inside NYC.

Wafel time.

Strawberry shortcake wafels, surprised the kids didn’t eat it all. It may have been too sweet, even for the kids. Little KL refused to eat any.

Now, we walk.

Little KL has been complaining about walking. We’ve only sat on a train most of the day today and somehow he says he’s walked too much.

RL and I took turns carrying him.

I would not want to live in one of those super tall skinny residential towers. I guess most people wouldn’t either as I think they haven’t been selling as well as they had hoped. Plus…it’s $$$$$$$$$$$$.

So many food stalls here on the sidewalks.

Made the walk to MoMA.

No timed entry, tickets on the spot at a kiosk and no wait. Nice.

They recreated a bomb shelter from half of a century ago and called it…art.

Kids, make a we are art pose.

We are art.

Art…

Art.

RL said she found the ultimate unicorn and showed it to the kids. They were all a little disgusted by the long snout. I guess it’s really a hexahorn?

To be continued at NYC Day 1 Part 2.
