NYC Day 2 Part 1

Continued from NYC Day 1 Part 2.

Woke up to rain this morning in NYC. We’ve been pretty good at avoiding getting rained on so far this trip. Let’s see how bad the rain is once we get outside.

The heavy rain had come down earlier this morning, it’s not bad at all right now.

First, breakfast and coffee.

Too many choices.

Breakfast done, let’s call an Uber for our timed entry museum visit.

Gross. Some Jeep drivers have the worst possible taste in mods.

Got here at around 10am for our 10:30 entry. We’ll spend the extra time to walk around Central Park across the street.

Me trying to herd the kids back together to take another picture.

Clouds are low today.

Getting the pebbles out of my shoes from walking on the trail.

Oh look, the iconic NYC steam coming out of manholes.

CL said the steam from one of the manholes smelled like carrots. So RL and PL went back to smell it and agreed that it did indeed smell like steamed carrots!

Alright, let’s get in line and go in soon. We’ve lucked out so far, it’s not really raining, just barely misting.

Let’s go.

I didn’t look up what was on exhibit, so was surprised to find this inside.

Twice now we’ve been to Guggenheim and been less than impressed with the advant garde art that they’ve chosen for their main exhibit. Meh.

Kids, stop messing around or we’ll all get in trouble.

Also losing it. We’ve decided this will be our last museum for this trip. The kids are museumed out.

Yeah, that’s about right.

What are these?

Tweets by Trump on metal. Little did we know that by later today there would be an assassination attempt on his life at a rally.

Curators of the museum sometimes, I feel, like are too up in their ivory tower to be relatable to the general public.

That thing against the wall with the spotlight is part of the exhibit. What?

A projected video if an endoscopy of the artist. What?

How do you stop fat people from using your toilets? Make it so that they can’t squeeze past the toilets to sit down.

This is literally an AC system running. What?!

The building is still cool though even if their art selection has been less than stellar sometimes.

Kids were mesmerized by the rolling digital words though.

Irregularly shaped elevator.

We got to the ground floor, and it’s just pouring rain outside. Better duck into the gift shop to see if it’ll lessen.

Click.

Click.

A few minutes in the gift shop was just long enough for the hard rain to stop. It’s again barely misting now. We’ve done well this trip avoiding the rain.

Money money money.

Even the Taycan has a rear bumper protector.

Alright, down into the subway. Let’s hope we won’t run into any track maintenance at this station.

All good.

Let’s head back to our hotel.

We’ve been lucky that the trains haven’t been too full and we’ve been able to get a seat everytime. It’s the weekend right now so that’s probably part of the reason why there’s been more room.

Grand Central. Here to see the building, and here to eat lunch. The kids were only semi impressed with the building…

We debated between Cipriani which has the view of the main hall, or Grand Central Oyster which has the cool domed ceiling. We decided on Italian food.

Loving the small cracker like breadsticks.

Cheers.
