Home, Sweet Home

Continued from Nola Day 2.

Last day of our vacation…errr, I meant summer enrichment trip for the kids. I think Key Lime the cat will be a highlight for the kids on this trip.

No one at the front desk when we were checking out, no one answered, and no bartenders were found. Well, I guess the key drop box will do.

First, coffee.

Homeless guy outside of Starbucks scratching himself until he’s bleeding all over. The kids got a good look at different segments of society on this trip for sure. I guess that’s enrichment.

Much like yesterday, the weather forecast is for rain.

On the drive back to Texas on I-10 we saw hundreds and hundreds of lineman trucks returning from probably Houston after Hurricane Beryl. We are headed to our beach house to see the carnage with our eyes and assess what repairs would need to be made.

add that at one point we had to drive 20 extra miles because of exiting for gas only to find 87 and tried to come back onto freeway which had a closed onramp. We followed the detour sign which made us go back the way we came for 10 whole miles which added 20 extra miles!!

RL takes a turn driving, with her eyes closed.

Finally back in Texas!!

We made a stop at Surfside Beach to check on the beach house. Roof damage, water damage around the windows, enclosed porch damaged, etc. etc. Not the greatest, but could be a lot worse for sure. Mosquitos were super bad though due to all the rain and standing water.

After a night in Surfside, it’s time to head back to Austin.

Finally distance driven, 3387.3 plus 192 miles for when I actually reset the odometer in Hutchins by Dallas. Roughly 3579.3 miles driven on this road trip, that’s a lot of driving in two weeks.

I made a promise to RL that she will plan next summer’s road trip with the kids. It will be planned her way with less driving.
