Chachagua Day 2 Part 1

Continued from Chachagua Day 1.

My view while doing morning duties. It would be great, but there are mosquitos flying around me which makes it terrible. Tons of animal noises here though. Birds, crickets, frogs, etc. etc. Just non stop chatter this morning and last night.

This would be so cool if there were no mosquitos. We even saw a daddy long leg in the bathroom this morning. Did not expect those to be living in rainforests.

So beautiful and lush. Right outside our front door, on the way to breakfast.

It’s like paradise, and with the sun, hopefully the squitos will subside.

Main restaurant ahead.

Red bananas.

Breakfast time!!! Again, worried about mosquitos, but they never bothered me once while eating at the restaurant. Nice.

What did both us were these small black bees that kept on flying around our food. The staff put some sugar water out far from our table and it worked well as bait.

Love these giant wood planks for flooring. I wonder what kind of wood it is? I want some.

Hummingbird seen from our dining table. Hummingbirds everywhere.

Yum, but yet the kids complained about their food. I think they are still fussy and trying to get settled to their new environment.

Love these crazy looking plant flowers.

Plan for the day is to lounge around and explore the hotel. We came here for the rainforest, so we’ll do just that.

It’s a jungle out there behind our room.

Looking back at our room from our private pool deck. Our “villa” is actually two villas combined and there’s another guest room next to ours. Wish we were a fully standalone building so we didn’t have to worry about the kids being too loud and bothering other people.

Don’t remember what this picture is about, but probably being fussy. We told the kids that we’ll go on a nature walk in the rainforest trail, they wanted to stay in and watch ipad. Yeah, no, we are going on a little hike.

Mosquitos!!!! They don’t sell bug spray at the hotel, but said we can buy it in a town about 5min away.

No paper maps so we just took a photo on our phone.

Let’s do this.

We are all going to take turns holding this bottled water. It’s really hot and humid here. Actually, it’s not even very hot, just very humid.

Love these.

That was just a short walk from our room to the front desk so that I can give them my credit card info that they forgot to get from me last night. The kids are already complaining nonstop about being hot and tired.

Alright, let’s go on the true nature walk. We are headed to a waterfall.

They are building more hotel rooms here in the forest.

Due to the terrain, everything is moved by human power.

The amount the kids complained, you would have thought that we’ve walked 200 miles already.

Hiking along the creek to the waterfall.

Found the waterfall.

The kids were very meh about this hike. Sigh.

On our way back from the waterfall, they had cordoned off this part of the trail….but this is the way back until we wanted to backtrack. I guess we’ll be rebels and see what the trail looks like ahead and turn back if it looks dangerous.

The trail was totally fine. Wonder why it was cordoned off.

And just like that, we are back to our room. Total time actually spent hiking on the trail was about 20minutes only. The kids acted like it was 20 hours…

Hot and sweaty from our hike, perfect solution to that problem. The pool is actually slightly heated and we felt the jets spray out cold and hot water depending on whether it’s being heated or cooled. Neat.

Everyone’s happier now.

Drinks from the bar.

This is what parenting looks like in our family. Kids fighting, and one of us having to break up a fight.

This is also what parenting looks like in our household.

Cheers! This is pretty awesome right now.

We taught the kids how to play Marco Polo. They think it’s the greatest game ever.

This finally feels like a vacation. After some swim time, the kids are on the back porch playing games on the ipads. It’s adult swim time.

It’s a literal jungle out there.

Kids in their favorite positions, hunched over ipads. On the other side of the wooden wall is other room that shares the same roof as us. Time for the grand tour. This is what roughly $750 a night gets you in the middle of the rainforest in Costa Rica.

The bathroom with the outdoor shower.

That frosted glass door leads to the room. We kept that door closed the entire time so mosquitos don’t get in.

The kids room.

The kids’ bathroom that isn’t permanently open to the outdoors. We ended up using this bathroom the most since it was mosquito and bug free. Thankful to have one bug free bathroom.

Alright, it’s lunch time. We are going to order some room service.

RL went to the main restaurant to order food, but it was closed for lunch. The other restaurant on site is open so RL went to get menus there.

This restaurant is located by the hotel hot springs.

While RL went to get menus, I chillaxed.

The hot springs. We’ll come here sometime later today after lunch.

Meanwhile, the kids are still on their ipads.

RL came back with drinks from the restaurant and we found a fly in my ice. Oh well, I’m still drinking it.

Tropical vacation calls for tropical drinks.

More adult swim time while we wait for food to be delivered, which turned into sort of a logistical issue. We are all hanging out on the back porch and the pool, so we can’t hear knocking on the front door. They said they can also call the hotel phone when they arrive with food. That’s fine except we always keep the door to the back porch closed so that mosquitos don’t fly into our room. The final solution was to leave the back door slightly cracked so that the kids can hear the phone ringing from the back porch. If they hear the phone ring or knocking at the front door, they would call one of us. You can probably guess how well this plan worked. The phone did ring once, the kids heard it but said nothing and finally I heard it.

It’s taken a while for the food to show up, and we are done with our drinks. It’s my turn to head to the restaurant and order some drinks and check on the status of food.

While I was at the restaurant, our food was getting ready to be delivered. I stayed to order drinks and when I came back to the room, I found the server standing at our front door knocking on the door with no one answering…Good thing I was there and he didn’t have to wait too long. Let’s eat!
