San Jose Day 2 Part 1

Continued from San Jose Day 1.

Everyone slept pretty good last night except for it getting too cold at one point. Super happy it was too cold and not too hot. We are going to take it really easy here in San Jose and not try to do too much.

RL made breakfast for the kids from items we got at the convenience store yesterday.

Beautiful sunny blue sky day here in San Jose. It’s supposed to be the rainy season right now, and it’s supposed to rain basically daily in the afternoon here. We’ll see if that’s the case.

Photo from the balcony off the bedroom.

Coffee. I don’t usually drink drip, but this feels just right and comforting not having to go out for coffee.

Deliberately having a slow start to the day. We’ve learned that if we try to see and do too much, everyone become fussy and no one has a good time.

It wasn’t until 11am when we made it outside of our apartment. Plan for the day is pretty simple. Take a short walk to a museum. Eat lunch. Then take another short walk to another museum, go home.

Morazan Park. It’s just a short one block from our apartment.

That’s one of the biggest human turd I’ve seen on the sidewalk. There’s definitely some homeless people here, but honestly, it not bad. I would say probably similar to downtown Austin and much much MUCH better than French Quarter New Orleans.

Sunday, lots of stores and restaurants are still closed.

Yum, fried chicken.

Rice. Could have used this for my broken iphone to try to get the moisture out. But honestly, there’s so much moisture so deep in the phone, I doubt this would have worked.

Grocery store, we’ll be visiting this after the museums.

First museum, Museo del Jade.

Which is also right next to the second museum that we’ll be visiting later.

And also very conveniently located right next to the lunch spot we’ve picked. That tall brutalist building is I believe the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica.

Jade museum, let’s do this.

Not many people here at all. San Jose isn’t exactly what Costa Rica is famous for. In fact, I think everyone I’ve talked to and everything I’ve read has recommended against spending time in San Jose. No one is proud of this city….

It’s pretty empty and we are actually really enjoying it. For the first time ever, the kids actually have free reign on the interactive screen in a museum without 20 other kids waiting to access them too. Very cool to be in a very empty museum to peruse at your own leisure.

More interactive screens.

Boob.

LOL. At some point, they had children come in and draw their version of the paintings. Little KL saw this kid’s drawing of Lenin and couldn’t stop laughing at it. I laughed too because of the topic that the kid chose. And I laughed some more because that Little KL probably couldn’t even draw as good as that kid’s drawing he’s laughing at. Just too many layers to this whole picture.

RL had hurt her knee in the swimming pool at the rainforest playing Marco Polo with the kids. She’s been limping around like an old person and having to take the elevators while I go with the kids up the stairs.

Our next museum to visit, the National Museum.

Reminds us of our bad dog back at home. Super bad.

Look, gold!

Look at how empty this place is, so awesome.

They were really into these three legged tables/stools.

This one is cool.

The kids found a puzzle, this will keep them occupied for a while as long as they don’t start fighting with each other.

We all join in to try to solve the puzzle.

Little KL has been going crazy this whole time. He’s been running up and down the display halls despite repeated threats from us to stop doing that. He’s just so go much energy that he can’t get out. It’s been a difficult trip with Little KL. He’s ramped up his hyperactivity another level for this trip.

Mama also joins in to try to solve the puzzle.

Come on, we can solve this as a family!

We did it!!! What a proud joint family moment. We all really enjoyed this challenge together.

Oh, what have we here?

Dicks and more dicks. All cultures love dicks.

I asked Little KL if he knew what these were, he didn’t really know and didn’t really care. So I took a photo of him standing in front of it. A little dick standing by lots of dicks. This child needs to calm down and listen a little bit more right now.

Again, the National museum taken from the windows by the staircase. We are working our way up to the top level of the Jade Museum.

The top floor is like a visible storage section.

Alright, it’s time for lunch. That museum was actually pretty awesome. Being empty allowed us to really enjoy all the exhibits and it’s not so overwhelming big either. Would recommend.

Now, right across the street to lunch. I always crave Asian food after traveling.

Dim Sum. Can’t believe we are having dim sum in San Jose Costa Rica. It was legit, yum.

Nom nom nom. I really enjoyed lunch.

Fan setup fail. Why would you enclose them so that they can’t suck in air and now lose all efficiency in moving air.

Everyone’s much happier after lunch. Oh yeah, the restaurant also gave us these yummy mango flavored candy as post lunch sweets.

Now, onto the National Museum.

Must climb on everything and anything.

Alright, let’s head into the museum.

To be continued at San Jose Day 2 Part 2.
