Continued from Oaxaca Day 2 Part 1.
They had a little clear floor section with a drop off of maybe 20 or 30 feet…why?
Ah yes, Europeans, everyone’s favorite.
All the doorways here are short. I barely clear them. The indigenous Zapotec and Mixtec people in Oaxaca are very tiny people. It’s not unusual to see grown adults easily under 5 feet tall.
Yeah…that’s not creepy at all.
Crotch shot.
I liked these colorful stones.
Done with museum, now looking for a lunch spot. It’s nice to have cell service. What’s even better is that my Verizon plan covers Mexico as domestic plan so I don’t even need to pay $10 daily to get roaming service. Traveling is just so much easier with smart phone maps and data. Kids now will never understand what it’s like to travel with a paper map and asking for directions nonstop.
Lunch spot.
It’s Michelin recommended apparently.
Beautiful courtyard setting.
Sliding roof shade with a cutout for the tree in the middle.
Their own brew, had to try it. It tastes good…like all pilsners.
Yum!!! The food in Oaxaca has been exceptional so far. Everything is so fucking good.
Hot vinegary sauce.
Got some cerviche as well. So good!!!
This restaurant delivers.
Now, we head back to our hotel. Going to take a nap and get out of the hottest and sunniest part of the day.
Parking police don’t mess around.
RL liked this wall.
I liked this gate.
Love these Mexican fence post cactus.
Back in our room sipping on some mezcal and Fresca. Makes for a good mixed drink.
RL really loves this photo of me. I don’t know why, but she does.
The air has been so dry here in our hotel room that we’ve had to wet a towel and make our own in room humidifier. Don’t knock it if it works.
After our afternoon nap, RL went out for a stroll around some pottery stores while I blogged in the room.
Then it’s time to head out to dinner. It looks like it may rain tonight? Maybe?
They’ve got some giant ants here in Oaxaca.
Pomelos?
Our hotel is close by Templo Santo Domingo, so we use it as a landmark to get around the area.
Dinner spot. Was a little tricky to find the entrance as the actual entrance is in the middle of the city block.
You can see the entrance at the yellow doorway, past this jewelry store.
This is actually a Michelin Star restaurant but I think we’re here during slow season and its mid-week so we were able to get a set without having to make a reservation.
Woah. Open sky dining. Hope it doesn’t rain.
I wanted to try the Oaxacan bugs, but RL didn’t want to share with me so I chickened out.
Beautiful restaurant. They do have a roof that can be semi closed if it does rain I guess.
Looking mighty cloudy.
Another day, another mezcal tasting.
Carrots under those leathery dried fruits or something else. This was very good.
Cerviche!
RL likes this photo of me as well.
Tlayuda, kinda like a tostada, but on a thin tortilla. This one is shaped more like a quesadilla, but they are usually open faced.
RL had beef tongue and said it was phenomenal.
View of the restaurant from the second floor landing outside the restroom. Very unique setting for sure.
They had a guava cheesecake on the menu, I had to give it a try. Superb.
RL and I both love how everywhere we go here the use of texture with the stones is played on heavily with their architecture. These cement blocks are a great example of this.
And since it’s our wedding anniversary trip, they gave us another free dessert.
Ice cream with a tortilla that you crack into little pieces and eat it together. Yum. This has been a very delicious meal.
Heading back to hotel room after dinner. Why are all these kids out around in the evening?
Back in our room, we were going to use our outdoor tub, then disaster struck. We broke one of the glass cups in our room.
Our very nice hotel staff to the rescue. This being only a 4 room hotel, it’s just one single staff member who is overnight here.
Glass incident cleaned up, we couldn’t figure out how to get hot water. The faucet ended up having hot and cold switched.
Finally. It’s like a hot tub. This is nice.
